mainly because it is infinitely adjustable, has a lifetime warranty, and is fully rebuildable. The caveat is that in order to adjust the reas, you have to cut access holes in the hatch panels above the shocks. I went for the KYBs b/c the rears are adjusted underneath the car, therefore not requiring the panels to be cut. I am still a relative novice though, so others who have raced on both may suggest skipping the KYBs and going straight to the Konis if you are serious about autocrossing.
